With Nintendo Switch being extremely successful for Nintendo, one would assume that Nintendo will finally drop the support for the 3DS but, turns out Nintendo intends to support it until Nintendo Switch becomes a one-per-person system.
During the company’s latest earnings call, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima noted that despite 3DS being 7 years old is still being supported by Nintendo because it is cheaper compared to Switch and that makes it easier for parents to but this handheld for their children.
Furthermore, he noted that 3DS has a huge library of games that players can choose from.
He added that until Nintendo Switch becomes a one-per-person system from a one-per-household system, they will continue to support it with new games and content.
Given that Switch is a home gaming system that can be taken on the go, this situation may change if it grows from being a one-per-household system to a one-per-person system. But the price of Switch is not something with which most parents would buy a system for every one of their children in a short period of time. Moving forward, we will work to ascertain what kinds of play people want at which price points, and as long as there is such demand, we will continue to sell the 3DS system. I see the product coexisting with Nintendo Switch at this point in time.
Speaking of Switch, Valve has officially added Switch pro controller support to Steam.
According to Valve, they are pleased to add the Nintendo Switch pro controller support to Steam and believe that the d-pad is ideal for fighting games and platformers.
