War Thunder has finally received its promised “New Power Update” following teasers and sneak peaks in the past few months. They say war never changes. Here though it has and that too just in time for the holiday season.
Gaijin Entertainment has switched to its latest Dagor 6.0 proprietary game engine for starters to significantly upgrade visuals across all supported platforms. These visual upgrades include a more realistic sky with varying cloud formations, improved fog and lighting, enhanced fire and explosion effects, revamped physics-based destruction, and the correct simulation of bullet or shell impacts.
The “biggest update in the history of the game” further brings War Thunder to the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. The next-generation versions run in “steady” 60 frames per second at 4K resolution with the same performance benchmarks claimed for Xbox Series S as well but at 1440p resolution. The update also adds support for DLSS technology for the new Nvidia RTX graphics cards on PC.
Beyond visual enhancements and upgrades, new war machines have joined the battlefield. T-90A tanks equipped with Shtora electro-optical jammers and laser/IR warning systems have been rolled out alongside US M1128 Stryker MGS, German Leopard 2A6, and French Leclerc S2 as new armored vehicles.
The iconic HMS Dreadnought as well as other battlecruisers and battleships mark their naval debut with an updated naval fleet progression system where players can start with destroyers to get to the largest ships much faster.
War Thunder further sees the Harrier and Yak-38 aircrafts receive VTOL machines with which to “perform helicopter-style attack runs or avoid enemy detection at low altitude,” in addition to aircraft carriers such as HMS Ark Royal, USS Forrestal and the Soviet aircraft cruiser Baku.
Take note that War Thunder is being prepped for a battle pass system as well, which will allow players to not only unlock cosmetic rewards but also premium vehicles such as the US F2G jet and Soviet Т-10А tank. Any unlocked vehicles as rewards from the battle pass can also be sold to other players.
The complete (and mighty lengthy) patch notes can be gone through here.
