Hellpoint will be releasing for every major platform out there. That includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC with support for both Linux and Mac operating systems. When coming to the cloud, Cradle Games would love to also see a release on Google Stadia, albeit with a few conditions in place.
Speaking with SegmentNext in a recent interview, studio co-founder and creative director Mathieu Boudreau stated that bringing Hellpoint to Google Stadia will be considered once Cradle Games increases in size. By then, the subscription-based cloud service should “become more powerful” as well.
On a personal note, Boudreau said that he finds Google Stadia pretty “cool” but only if the user is into renting games. “I wouldn’t want to see it [Google Stadia] taking over the whole medium because the way I understand it there is very little product ownership in that model,” he pointed out. “Already letting go of hard copies was difficult for me, I’m the kind of guy who enjoys instruction booklets.” Boudreau expressed a wish to see the physical games market endure with time, even if it’s “akin to vinyl music records”.
While still discussing platforms, Boudreau also stated that it’s “quite possible” to expect Hellpoint on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, especially if Sony and Microsoft can send over development kits for Cradle Games to get some firsthand tinkering with the powerful machines. However, all focus right now is on Hellpoint “to be the best possible experience” at launch for current-generation platforms. There are currently no plans for a next-generation release.
Hellpoint has already made a name for itself as an intense Souls-like role-playing game with a dark and twisted sci-fi setting. The game takes place in a derelict space station, once a bustling metropolis, where players must survive against nightmarish creatures and unravel the truth of how they came to be. What’s really curious is that the space station orbits around a black hole in real time, which “triggers various dynamic events such as boss appearances, horde assaults as well as modified enemy stats and positions”.
You can go ahead and add Hellpoint to your wishlist on Steam right now. Cradle Games believes that PC will see the most amount of sales anyway because of its enormous user-base. Just remember that the developer encourages you to get a controller for the game.
The release date is set for April 16, 2020, for all major platforms. That includes PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.
