One of the biggest things missing from Fallout 76 on its initial release was the presence of NPCs, which had been absent from the game until now in favor of wandering robots and terminals. Now, however, the Fallout 76 Wastelanders update is going to be adding NPCs on April 7 when it comes out.
The NPCs, story-wise, have apparently returned to the Appalachian Wasteland after the players of Fallout 76 have helped to make the wasteland a safer place. Now, they’ll be wandering around the area for you to interact with and get quests from.
However, the NPCs aren’t the only things that are going to be changing with the new update. Various dialogue choices are returning to the game and will alter how quests can turn out, and many of the NPCs are tied to a brand-new questline that will have new enemies and weapons in it.
Along with the Fallout 76 Wastelanders update, players will also be able to obtain two new different content packs, one geared towards Raiders and the other geared towards Settlers. Both of these hold special exclusive CAMP items and cosmetics for you to personalize bases and your outfits with.
Since Fallout 76 has gotten many complaints about how barren it is since it launched, hopefully the arrival of NPC settlers to the region will help to make the game feel more alive the same way other wastelands did in normal Fallout games, rather than having no one to interact with than other players.
Hopefully Bethesda will make it so these NPCs can’t be arbitrarily killed by players that want to make it miserable for everyone else, especially if doing so will cause players to be unable to access the questline that is the main draw of the expansion.
Either way, once again the Fallout 76 Wastelanders update will be launching on April 7, so if you’re still playing the game you’ve still got a few months to wait.
