Resident Evil 2 Remake Sales Total Five Million As Of Now Before RE3 Remake Launch

Resident Evil 2 Remake sales have apparently reached 5 million, according to a Capcom fiscal year report released today online.

The Resident Evil 3 remake is due to launch in April, but that doesn’t mean that Capcom is just ignoring the accomplishments of its predecessor. Resident Evil 2 Remake sales apparently have sold a total of five million units according to a quarterly fiscal report released by Capcom today for the fiscal year.

Resident Evil 2 was where the Resident Evil series originally hit its stride, putting players in the roles of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they each came to Raccoon City for their own reasons, only to have to fight for their lives to get out.

The game has proven to be very popular even after years and years of other Resident Evil games coming out, so it’s no surprise that the Resident Evil 2 Remake sales were so high, especially given the much higher production values and much better atmosphere.

Rather than being a fairly standard tank-control zombie shooter, the Resident Evil 2 Remake made the game much more of a survivor horror title. A lack of ammunition, characters that could easily be overwhelmed and die, and the ever-present (and by now memetic) threat of Mr. X all combined to make the game even better as a remake than it had ever been originally.

The Capcom fiscal report also brought up the sales performances of Monster Hunter World, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and Devil May Cry 5. Monster Hunter World, which came out in 2017, has sold over 15 million units cumulatively over the past two years. Iceborne, the expansion which just came out several weeks ago, has sold nearly a third of that number already.

While Resident Evil 3 isn’t as well-remembered (except in the case of Nemesis), considering the reaction to how good Resident Evil 2 remake was, we can hopefully expect the Resident Evil 3 sales to be even better.

If you still want to contribute to the Resident Evil 2 sales and buy the game to play through it before Resident Evil 3 comes out, you can currently play it on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. Resident Evil 3 remake will be coming out on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 on April 3.
