The Uncharted film release date has been pushed back to March of 2021 as part of a variety of other shifts in release dates from upcoming Sony pictures, including Masters of the Universe, Happiest Season, and Fatherhood. The film, which will star Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, is directed by Ruben Fleischer.
Fleischer is only the most recent in a large number of different directors that had previously been on call to direct the film, only to back out because of prior commitments or other unstated reasons. The Uncharted film itself has been in development hell for years, with a variety of stars reputed to be in the main role of treasure hunter Nathan Drake.
Originally, the Uncharted film release date was supposed to be on December 18 of this year, but its new release date in March of 2021 replaces Master of the Universe, which occupied that spot before being undated completely. Prior to its March release date that movie was supposed to release last month in December of last year.
Ruben Fleischer was only tapped to direct the film a few weeks ago, and due to Tom Holland also playing the current Spider-Man, the film might come across filming difficulties due to Holland’s commitments with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hopefully, however, with its current team, it will break the curse of video game movies never really being very good. Along with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in the starring roles, Ruben Fleischer has previously directed various comedy movies like the Zombieland movies, 30 Minutes or Less, and even has superhero experience with the Venom film.
The film’s writing team, composed of Rafe Judkins and the pair of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the latter two of which are responsible for writing the script to the first Iron Man, is also fairly skilled. Along with Marcum and Holloway’s works, Judkins wrote the screenplays for TV shows such as Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and Chuck.
Hopefully the new Uncharted film release date will actually stick this time, and we’ll be able to see a trailer for it sometime this year.
