Half-Life Alyx is finally coming to SteamVR, after a 14-year gap of no new installments to the series. The franchise has been very silent about Half-Life. But now, Valve Corporation wants to be able to ‘speak’ with the community in a different way as compared to Dota 2 and Counter-Strike.
To form a connection with the Half-Life Alyx community, Valve developer team members held an ‘ask me anything’ (AMA) session Reddit. The 9 members were a mixture of audio and visual designers, programmers, animators, and artists on the game. In short, they were capable to answer any question coming from fans relating Half-Life. The team also left a note that they will lie to us about Half-Life’s story.
The Half-Life Alyx team revealed the secret behind Valve being completely silent about Half-Life when a fan asked them: “What changed? 12 years of Valve not mentioning Half-Life.” To which the team replied:
We didn’t talk about Half-Life for a long time because we weren’t actively working on a Half-Life game. Once Half-Life: Alyx became a reality internally, it was already clear to us that this was something we wanted to involve the community in. We’re going to be doing more of this in the next few weeks as we prepare to launch it!
The team openly answered all the questions within their set time limit. We also got to know that a total of 80 people are working on Half-Life Alyx development. This is the biggest team ever Valve has ever had. The developers sounded very confident about the game launching on the set date.
The developers revealed interesting details about the game. Gamers will be able to put a bucket on head-crab which will make it move the bucket around. The developers also accepted that Barnacles will be a threat in VR, and will be dealt with by gamers in familiar ways. The game will also change its music and sound effects according to what’s going on in the game.
It’s not long before March when Half-Life Alyx will be released and we will be able to experience the game in VR. A collection of Half-Life is also free to play until the new game is launched. You can revive the nostalgia of the Half-Life series here.
