Marvel’s Avengers Delayed By Several Months

Crystal Dynamics requires additional development time to deliver “the ultimate Avengers gaming experience” to fans. Hence, the developer has decided to delay the release of Marvel’s Avengers by several months. The game was originally intended to launch on May 15, 2020. The new release date is now set to September 4, 2020 — marking a delay of nearly four months.

In an open letter addressed to fans, studio co-heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg noted that the decision to delay the game was a difficult but necessary one. Crystal Dynamics is committed to deliver a polish and original product and in that light, Marvel’s Avengers needs to adhere to high standards that fans expect and deserve. Hence, why the delay.

We committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come. To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.

Marvel’s Avengers will have a campaign length of somewhere between ten and twelve hours. Spending time in exploration and side missions (and a bit of grinding) will add about twenty hours but the main storyline can be completed within the same parameters.

During the campaign, players will reach certain junctions where the decisions they take will greatly impact the overall storyline. What that means is that Marvel’s Avengers will have alternate endings as well. The results of some actions will be seen almost immediately while others will mature over the course of progression.

In fact, Marvel’s Avengers doesn’t really have an ending, at least not in the traditional fashion. Crystal Dynamics plans to continuously expand the main storyline through post-release expansion packs, suggesting that certain decisions taken in the base experience could probably carry forward.

Crystal Dynamics has repeatedly pointed out that while Marvel’s Avengers looks to be simple and straightforward at first glance, there’s sufficient depth for players to explore. Each superhero has advantages and fitted for particular situations. Part of the experience will be studying the best possible builds and compositions between the playable roster.

As another reminder, Marvel’s Avengers will now release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4, 2020.
