Last month, during The Game Awards 2019, we had the chance to take a look at Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and it left us in awe. Ninja Theory is a brewing master when it comes to setting the atmosphere of a great game. Now, the studio recruits ex-Naughty Dog environmental artist and adds one more great asset to its team.
Taking a look at the Hellblade 2 trailer, we can clearly see why the studio has become so popular over the past years. The first game managed to become a classic on all platforms and created a milestone for triple-A titles to surpass. The bar is set even higher for its sequel and, with Microsoft’s support, the studio can commit to yet another masterpiece.
Andrew Watkins, a former environmental artist at Naughty Dog was recently recruited by Ninja Theory in the same role, proving that expansion is happening. With 9 years of expertise on his back, Watkins is placed at a position worthy of the game’s title. Although some showed the original announcement as a hoax, Watkins’ Linkedin profile is officially updated to a Senior Environmental Artist at Ninja Theory, making him the newest member of an evergrowing team.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has no set release date yet. However, it will release on Xbox Series X as a console exclusive. On a bright note, Microsoft confirmed that the game will also release on PC. The trailer, which was wholly depicted in in-engine footage, showed an even darker side of its universe. If you were a fan of the first title, this one will set the bar higher just by those first minutes.
The original game was a huge commercial success and sold over a million copies across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Its release on Nintendo Switch brought Senua to pretty much every gamer’s household, making it a stable for every collection. Will its sequel manage to do the same amidst the cruel competition of the imminent console war?
