Steam Reveals Best-Selling Games Of 2019

With 2019 done and dusted, Valve has compiled an elaborate list to reveal all of the best-selling games on Steam from last year. For easier understanding, the developer/publisher has categorized the games in accordance to release dates. Hence, there are two different lists. The first reveals the best-selling games that were released on Steam in 2019 and the other does an overall job by including older games that are still grossing on a more-than impressive scale.

Starting with games that were released on Steam in 2019; the best-selling list includes the likes of Devil May Cry 5, Remnant: From the Ashes, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Code Vein, Red Dead Redemption 2, Mordhau, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Resident Evil 2, Destiny 2, Planet Zoo, and Total War: Three Kingdoms.

Total War: Three Kingdoms and Destiny 2 were the only two games that also made it to the overall best-selling list, meaning that the amount they made on Steam was enough to match the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5, Monster Hunter World, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Civilization 6, The Elder Scrolls Online, and PUBG.

Valve recently took a broom and dustpan to Steam to clean up the popular digital marketplace before the advent of the festive season last month. Nearly 3,000 shovelware games were purged from the digital storefront. These games had been clogging space for no reason, and there are probably more on Steam that need to be cleaned out. They are basically substandard clones and in the past, Valve has done substantial work in hiding them from Steam. However, users still end up purchasing these shovelware games, which is often during times of sales. By purging them, Valve cleaned up its marketplace to give legitimate indie games more space in the spotlight.

Elsewhere, Valve is bringing out Half-Life: Alyx later in March. The game is a virtual reality take on the iconic franchise, meaning that the third episode is still in the wind. Half-Life: Alyx focuses on Gordon Freeman’s companion Alyx Vance and takes place before the events of Half-Life 2. Players will be following her as she makes her way into a Combine fortress known as the Vault in order to steal a weapon for the Resistance. Along the way she must also rescue her father, Eli Vance.
