Adam Heart of Iron Galaxy Studios announced on Twitter today that he hoped people would be excited about the next game that he and his studio were working on. Unfortunately, the next Iron Galaxy game that’s coming out is not Killer Instinct, despite the hopes of many fighting game fans.
A remade Killer Instinct (originally developed by Double Helix) served as one of the few exclusive games on the Xbox One and also served as a launch title to that game, helped along by its interesting characters and free-to-play nature. Various guest characters included the Arbiter from Halo, Rash from the Battletoads, and General RAAM from Gears of War.
While it’s a certainty that a lot of fans of the original game would expect a new Killer Instinct game to come with the new Xbox console, and would really want one, unfortunately Iron Galaxy has other plans. However, we don’t know what exactly their new game is.
All that Heart was able to say about it was that he was in love with it, but that unfortunately there was still a lot of work to do on it and that the studio would show it off when it was ready, so it will likely be a long time before anything is shown.
At least one fan responded to his original tweet hoping that it was a new Killer Instinct, especially since Iron Galaxy took over development years ago, saying that it was the only real reason to buy an Xbox, but Heart squashed it by saying that it wasn’t a new Killer Instinct game.
While it did dash hopes, stomping out a rumor before it can really get going will do a lot to prevent disappointment (or unjustifiable fan-rage) down the road. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see what the new Iron Galaxy game is, and hopefully it will be something good.
