Almost a month after the opening of Nier’s anniversary website, a new Nier Automata announcement could be just around the corner. Yoko Taro, director of the 2017 classic posts about the upcoming NieR: Theatrical Orchestra 12020 and sends fans into a frenzy.
Let’s be real. Looking at small details isn’t always the best practice to unearth upcoming titles. When it comes to huge ones like a Nier Automata announcement though, we’ll make an exception. Yoko Taro, Nier Automata director has posted on Twitter about the arrival of 2020 in a tweet secretly referencing the NieR: Theatrical Orchestra 12020.
Most will say that this has nothing to do with an unexpected Nier Automata announcement. The hints keep pilling up though. The official website is back online just in time for the franchise’s 10th anniversary and Automata has struck a collaboration with online TCG Shadowverse. The name is back in the picture and it must mean something. The franchise turns 10 in April, which looks like an excellent period to hype a new title up.
Major publishers are already releasing huge games this year, with Square Enix bringing us Final Fantasy 7 remake soon. After that, we’ll need something to look forward to and a new Nier Automata game or a remake of the original Nier look perfect.
As for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12020, it will take place on January 25th and 29th in Chicago and LA respectively. We doubt that there will be an announcement there, it does set the stage for a later date. E3 2020 looks like a perfect occasion on that matter.
Whatever the case, it’s always great seeing games like NieR Automata becoming classics. The fact that Square Enix continues expanding its universe with novels is reason enough to believe that the franchise is far from over. However, we’ll have to at least wait for the next generation of consoles to release in order for the publisher to invest in such a massive release to hit the market.
