It has been so long since the last time we heard about Bayonetta that it almost feels like a dream. Since the announcement that Bayonetta 3 is in development and will release for Nintendo Switch, Platinum Games has fallen into silence. Now, the studio is working on a new hack-n-slash IP. However, a new Bayonetta 3 announcement might be just around the corner.
During a recent interview, Kenichi Sato CEO of Platinum Games has talked about his studio’s plans for 2020 and promised fans that they will have great news for the beginning of the year. He said:
We arrived a little late, but we hope you will receive great news by the beginning of the new year. So be attentive. I always keep my promises.
We already know that Platinum is working on Babylon’s Fall for Playstation 4 and Steam. That doesn’t mean that Bayonetta 3 has fallen behind though. Hideki Kamiya has confirmed this year that its development is “actually going quite well”. It wouldn’t surprise us if an announcement is just around the corner.
Given the fact that Platinum Games expects 2020 to be a big year for them, it wouldn’t surprise us if we get a late-year Bayonetta 3 release date. The studio could benefit from an upcoming Nintendo Direct to add shock value to the announcement and add another console seller to the Nintendo Switch library.
Until we get that much anticipated Bayonetta 3 release date announcement, we still have more in store for the franchise. According to a recent leak, we find out that we’ll likely get Bayonetta and Vanquish remasters on consoles and PC into a “Tenth Anniversary Bundle” to celebrate their anniversaries. On that note, we might be looking at a Nier Automata announcement too, so 2020 clearly is Platinum Games’ year.
Bayonetta 3 has no set release date yet. However, we expect it to drop sometime this year. The game will be exclusive on Nintendo Switch. As for Babylon’s Fall, the game will release on PS4 and PC with no set date as well. Platinum promises more information during this summer.
