11 Bit Studios has announced that a Frostpunk prequel DLC, called “The Last Autumn”, will be releasing in January of next year. The DLC will tell the story of the disaster that caused the state of the game’s world, which is trapped in the midst of a second ice age.
The Last Autumn will be introducing a large amount of new content to the game, including a new scenario, new mechanics, unique architecture, new technologies, new Books of Law, and even a deep dive into the world’s backstory and lore for those players that are interested in it.
In the world of Frostpunk, a variety of factors such as massive volcanic eruptions, the dimming of the sun, and various other factors caused the world to be blanketed in a global ice age, with the only humanity left being those who are clustered in large cities around heat-giving generators.
The story scenario for the Frostpunk prequel DLC will focus around one of these generators, Site 113, as its inhabitants attempt to get the generator working before the ice age reaches their location. It will be up to players to allow that to happen and get the generator up in time.
Frostpunk already proved to be a huge success when it first launched back in April of last year, and is the next hit game from 11 Bit Studios, who are also responsible for developing another survival strategy game in the form of This War of Mine, which deals with similar moral dilemmas and risks.
While there isn’t an actual confirmed release date for when the Frostpunk prequel DLC will be coming out, thankfully January 2020 isn’t that far away, so 11 Bit should have an actual date for the DLC’s release at some point in the near future. In the meantime, you can play Frostpunk on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can watch the DLC’s trailer here.
