“Project Medieval” Rumors Resurface For Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games was rumored several months ago to be working on a new intellectual property, known internally as Project Medieval. Besides entering pre-production — allegedly — and being slated for a release between Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 6, nothing more was known at the time.

Project Medieval was soon forgotten. However, rumors have now started surfacing once again. Even though they are still weak, the opportunity to spend precious brain cells on speculations can never be wasted.

Taking to Reddit earlier today, an anonymous user claimed that Project Medieval is very real. Rockstar Games is said to be working on an open-world game with a medieval setting. There will apparently be sword-based duels and other combat mechanics dating back to the medieval times. In addition, Rockstar Games is looking to release Project Medieval in the first quarter of 2021 and an official announcement is just around the corner.

The rumors around Project Medieval are pretty bleak. Rockstar Games has only appeared in the news for two games outside of Red Dead Redemption 2. There’s firstly Grand Theft Auto 6, which is a no-brainer for next-generation platforms. There’s then Bully 2, which was recently revealed to have been abandoned mid-development and placed on a hiatus.

Looking back to another leak, which was fairly substantial in comparison, Rockstar Games will be releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 for PlayStation 5 in either late 2020 or early 2021. That would pretty much coincide with the launch of Sony’s PlayStation successor. However, that also puts all hands on deck for Rockstar Games. It seems unlikely that the developer would be taking resources away from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto installment so close to launch. Also, for a company like Rockstar Games, it would be better to introduce a new intellectual property on next-generation consoles rather than now when everyone’s getting ready to leave. Hence, Project Medieval may exist in some form but the game, if it even is, won’t be releasing so soon.
