Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Release on Next-Gen Consoles Next Winter

Cyberpunk 2077 releases next spring, holding the title of one of the most highly anticipated titles for 2020. Although we know that CD Projekt RED intends to release the game on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4, there’s still a question hanging around.

Will Cyberpunk 2077 release on next-gen consoles? Apparently, there’s a good possibility that it will. It’s won’t be available next holiday though to accompany PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett with their launch.

Mentioned in a recent shareholder’s call inside CD Projekt, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz talked about the potential release of Cyberpunk 2077 on next-gen consoles.

According to his statement, the company has no clear intention of releasing their existing games on Playstation 5 or Xbox Scarlett. However, they can’t rule out the possibility. Even so, we shouldn’t expect Cyberpunk 2077 or Gwent to get a release date on those consoles as soon as they release. He claims:

“I can understand that someone is expecting projects for the next-gen from us, it is understandable, but I cannot be specific about it, about when and what could happen. I can tell you, however, with fair certainty that it will not happen around the launch window of the new console. “

Even if Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t release on Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett consoles, we shouldn’t be mad. Given the fact that both of them will include a backward compatibility functionality, we’ll be able to play the game no matter what.

The company isn’t pushing the next generation of consoles aside. CD Projekt RED is believed to be working on a new game for The Witcher after the release of Cyberpunk, giving the franchise a new protagonist this time. If that is true, then we should expect The Witcher 4 to be the first CD Projekt game to release natively on next-gen consoles.

For the time being, we can look forward to Cyberpunk 2077 releasing on current platforms. The game launches on April 16th 2020 for PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Google Stadia. Bloomberg, one of the top financial publications in the world, is labeling the studio’s stocks as one of the top 50 to watch next year.

Cyberpunk 2077 sales are apparently anticipated to be over 20 million in its launch year.
