Modern Warfare has been hit by a severe outage on all supported platforms, rending all servers offline since the past hour or so. The new installment has literary gone dark worldwide and no one knows why.
When trying to go online, players are met with an error message that keeps splashing itself on the screen to confirm the downed servers. Despite the official status page stating that the Modern Warfare servers are online, players around the globe have been confirming otherwise.
Strangely enough, both Activision and Infinity Ward have been relatively quiet since the complaints started pouring in. However, that doesn’t mean Modern Warfare has been left for dead. At the time of writing, many players are reporting that the servers have started recovering. The recovery, though, appears to be slow and random. If you’re still experiencing issues, try restarting Modern Warfare and logging back in. If the issue is still there, wait a few minutes and try again.
The developer hasn’t confirmed but the disruption to the servers may have been caused by a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, at least that’s what many folks from the community believe to have happened. That being said, the outage was across all three platforms and that’s something to consider before making any large claims. Infinity Ward should be providing an update soon on what actually happened.
