Best Red Dead Redemption 2 Mods

In this guide, we would be talking about mods that you can apply in Red Dead Redemption 2 now that the PC version of the game is out. You can use these mods to turn into any creature, skip through the prologue or even turn Arthur into the joker. We have handpicked some of the best ones out there so you can have more fun in the West.

Best Red Dead Redemption 2 Mods

Every time an open-world game comes out, modders get to making mods that make the game even more fun.

The same is the case with RDR2 as modders have come up with some pretty amazing stuff. For example, you can turn Arthur Morgan to the Joker, you can skip the whole first act or even play as a horse.

You can even apply a cinematic reshade or you can use the music from the Red Dead Redemption (the first one). But first, let’s see how you can download and apply these mods.

Downloading and Applying Mods
It is very easy to apply mods to Red Dead Redemption 2. All you need to do is go to a Site like Nexusmods and click on whatever mod you want to get. You would get a download button along with instructions on how you can apply the mod. We will also tell you a general overview of how you can do it.

For most of the mods, all you have to do is go to the root directory of where you installed the game. It would be like:

[Drive]: > [Install Location] > [Game Files].

After that, you only have to drag and drop the files into the install folder. Remember, to save a copy and replace the files already present in the folder. After that just play the game as whatever you have turned into.

Important Note
Always back up your files before applying any mod. There is a possibility that these mods could break your game and if you dint have your original files backed up then you will have to reinstall it which would be a lot of hassle. SO just keep the files saved and roll back if the mod breaks your game.

Following are the mods we think would the best ones to apply:

Turning Morgan into the Joker
Did I mention that you can turn Arthur into the Joker before? Maybe I did.

Well, you can turn into Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker by downloading this RDR2 mod. The Heath Ledger’s Joker might have been more preferable for this game but this one is also great and well, in fashion.

The mod is very believable and even the face and makeup has re-textured the face of our cowboy so that it resembles with that of Joaquin.

Now all you need is to head to Saint Denis and get a fetching red suit and yellow waistcoat to complete the look. But even after all this being available you still won’t be able to dance down a long flight of stairs like the ones you see in the film.

The closest thing you can get is some flights of stairs in the mining town of Annesburg.

You can download it by from this site (click here).

Skip the opening act
We all love RDR2 but that snowy prologue is far too long and slow for my taste and I believe that there are many other people out there who share the same feelings as well which is why this mod is in existence.

It is called “RDR2 Intro Completed Save File mod” with which you can jump straight to a more action-packed chapter 2 and enjoy that. In order to install this mod, you have to download and copy the files to:

C:\Users\<name>\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Profiles.

You can download it by clicking here.

Play as any animal
This one is my personal favorite. From this mod called “Model Swap Mod”, you can turn into any animal or into any NPC from this game which is extremely cool.

You can become a Canadian goose and fly through the sky or turn into a sockeye salmon and swim through the lake and there are many more options available.

You can see the list by clicking here. All the animals will still speak in Arthur’s voice which is very funny as you will get to listen to a Carolina Parrot question the Dutch’s Leadership.

This mod can be downloaded from here.

Playing music from RDR1
Yes I agree that Red Dead Redemption 2’s soundtracks are very nice but some people out there still prefer the first game’s sound tracks over this one including me.

If you are one of us and want to experience Woody Jackson and Bill Elm’s mournful and majestic music then you should definitely download this mod. It is called “Red Dead Redemption One Sound Files mod”. It would enable you to play music from John Marston’s adventure straight to this prequel.

The Tracks included in this mod are:

  1. The wistful ‘Exodus in America’ opening as John begins his bounty hunt by stepping off a ferry,
  2. The ambient eeriness of Beecher’s Hope background theme.

You can download it from here.

The Nude mod or you can play as any character
With this mod you are able to play as any NPC you want to. But the funny thing is that there are some options available which are not even wearing clothes, these include “U_M_M_ValPoopingMan_01” and “U_F_M_RhdNudeWoman_01”.

Another option is the mythical missing princess whose skin you can use by typing “CS_PrincessIsabeau” into the “models” line of the mod’s Ist.ini file. It is called Lenny’s simple trainer.

You can download this one here.

Red Dead reshade
There are a lot of reshade mods already present at nexus mods but the one we recommend getting is the “Photorealistic Reshade”.

Some people think that you shouldn’t meddle with the color scheme of a studio, but hey, you are not forcing anyone else to do this are, you just want to change the shade to your liking and that is your right.

With this mod you can change colors, shadows, tone mapping, and overall sharpness. With this you can make the game look more artistic and cinematic and in case you don’t like it you can simply uninstall it.

Download it using this link.

Adjusting FOV
Game makers need to realize that there are people out there with a 21:9 display and not have a 16:9 monitor lying around. But it’s fine even if they don’t because we have a great modding community out there who helps us fix this problem. One of these mods that make life easier is the RDR2 FOV Widescreen Mod.

Once this mod is installed the black bars from the cutscenes, cinematic viewpoints, shop menus, and other areas of the game that crop the edges of the screen are gone.

As the story is a crucial part of the game experience so we recommend you to get this one in case you have an Ultra-Wide monitor.
