Death Stranding has been available for 4 days now, seeing a massive success even with some complaints about its gameplay. Last weeks’ UK Charts, deemed Death Stranding the second best selling game after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, pushing down huge releases like Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Need for Speed: Heat.
Looking at last week’s UK charts, you’ll see that Death Stranding has performed extremely well, even with its ups and downs. Gamesindustry.biz confirms that Kojima Productions’ first IP is now the second best selling Playstation 4 title for 2019.
Sadly, it didn’t manage to surpass Days Gone and it sold 36% fewer copies at launch. This should come as a negative thing though. Death Stranding is not your average game release. Days Gone is “easier to swallow” and destined for a broader audience.
The UK charts offer another view on the matter. One that wants Death Stranding to be performing perfectly, hitting second place in the top 10. It’s not a secret that Death Stranding counts a huge number of fans across the globe.
However, its out-of-the-box gameplay and complex story was the reason that it didn’t manage to dethrone Modern Warfare and sit at first place. This isn’t a game that everyone would line up to get at their nearest store, especially after its review bombing on Metacritic. In fact, the game has a huge fanbase in Russia and Japan, so we have to wait and see how the sales shape up in a few weeks.
The extent of Death Stranding’s popularity can be seen better on Twitch. During the past days, Death Stranding has been constantly sitting in the top 5 streamed games, pushing Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare down the ladder.
This tells us that people want to know more about it but are still skeptic of whether or not it is worth it. In total, Death Stranding has 10 million viewer hours on the popular streaming platform with more than 300 channels streaming it in only 4 days.
It will be interesting to see what the charts will look like in the weeks to come for Death Stranding. However, its growth won’t stop with its launch on Playstation 4, since the game will release on PC next summer. Expect it to be available on both Epic Store and Steam, with no more information provided besides that.
