The long-awaited day has arrived, and now Diablo fans can look to the future in anticipation as a Diablo 4 announcement trailer was shown off by Blizzard at this year’s BlizzCon, teasing a brand new story with a brand new villain for heroes to butcher their way towards when it releases.
The Diablo 4 trailer, a nine-minute long animated cutscene, shows three treasure hunters and a scholar making their way through a ruined church’s catacombs in search of loot. Unfortunately for them, they find something far more horrific.
Players who are familiar with Diablo’s lore are likely familiar with the setting’s origins. Heaven and Hell warred ceaselessly over the power of the Worldstone (which was destroyed in Diablo 2), which could create entire worlds. Tired of the ceaseless fighting, an alliance of angels and demons, led by the angel Inarius and the demon Lilith, stole the Worldstone and created Sanctaury.
The Diablo 4 trailer, however, depicts Lilith’s return, and it’s likely that she’ll once again embark on her own plan for Sanctuary, to make use of humanity as her personal army to destroy both Heaven and Hell. Obviously players can’t allow that, so it’s once again up to a group of heroes to stop her.
We’ve also gotten some gameplay from the game, which in addition to showing off the new iterations of the Barbarian and Sorcerer classes also revealed a new class, the Druid, which uses the elements and shapeshifting to battle the endless hordes of enemies.
Hopefully this time it won’t take as long for this Diablo game to come out as it did for Diablo 3, which got its reveal trailer in 2008 and was only released in 2012. Either way, we’ll likely learn more about Diablo 4 at a later date, so hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the future. You can see the Diablo 4 reveal trailer by following this link.
