Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Generated More Money Than Joker Premiere

Call of Duty is one of the most popular franchises in the entire industry and, therefore, it is not surprising that its most recent release is a true sales success. This is why it will seem normal to many that, in its early days on the market, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare generated more than Joker’s initial box office.

Through a statement, Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has generated revenues of more than $600 million in its first 3 days in the market. Activision also highlights that this game exceeded the initial box office of Joker, a film by Todd Phillips that generated $93.5 million on its premiere weekend and $548 million in just over a week.

Call of Duty is once again the top selling new premium game of the year, proving the enduring nature of the franchise across console, PC, mobile, and esports,” said Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard’s Chief Executive Officer. “In its first three days of release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare more than doubled the box office opening of Joker.

That’s not all, since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also broke records within the franchise. Their initial sales are better than those of any other Call of Duty in this generation. In addition, its PC version represented the best premiere of the series on this platform and it is the most successful digital launch of Activision.

I remind you that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare arrived on October 25 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

In other news, the last week of October was very important for Japan in terms of video games, since there were a lot of launch games. The one who stood out from all of them was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which surpassed all its rivals. According to Famitsu’s report of the sales of week 43 in the Asian country, the new iteration was very well received.

It managed to sell 117,670 units in its first 3 days, which were enough to defeat others debuting titles during the previous week. Among the new games that had excellent performance are the physical version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, The Outer Worlds and the expansion Ibara no Miko to Horobiru no Kami Online from Dragon Quest X.

As you can see in the lists below, it was a week with a lot of movement when it comes to video games. Different case is that of consoles, which week after week follow an almost invariable trend. On this occasion, except for a change of positions between Xbox One S and Xbox One X the positions remained the same, the only difference was in the number of units sold.
