PlatinumGames is one of the most recognized studios in the industry thanks to its excellent work in various franchises. One of their most beloved series is undoubtedly Bayonetta, an IP that turned 10. The first installment of this saga debuted in Japan on October 29, 2009. It was a highly anticipated release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
To celebrate such an important date, PlatinumGames and Hideki Kamiya shared a message and a special illustration which you can see above. Kamiya thanked the players for all the support they have given Bayonetta throughout their first decade. The series is very important for the creative, because it is the first title in which he worked at PlatinumGames.
Sincerest thanks to all of you who’ve supported Bayonetta over the last ten years. Today is a momentous occasion for me, and it’s all because of your tremendous love. Bayonetta was my very first title here at PlatinumGames, and I went into it with a lofty goal – to make the best action game I possibly could. I poured my all into the game with that feeling firmly in mind.
Now, ten years later, as I look back on those development days, I see peaks and valleys, good times and bad. But our staff pulled together through it all and, working as one, I think we managed to pull off something truly miraculous. To everyone who’s been involved with the Bayonetta series, and to all of the Bayonetta fans who’ve helped us get here: Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I hope you’ll follow Bayonetta’s adventures, and continue to love and support her for years to come.
PlatinumGames will also organize a social media campaign to give players the chance to win exclusive prizes, such as shirts with the illustration of Shimazaki and other surprises. The first 2 deliveries of the series arrived a few months ago on Nintendo Switch. In addition, PlatinumGames continues to work on the development of Bayonetta 3.
In other news, Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 were the most attractive games in the Nintendo Wii U catalog. It is for this reason that it is a pity that it will not be possible to buy its digital version in Japan, since they removed it from the eShop. According to information from Japanese Nintendo, Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 for Wii U will stop selling on the eShop on September 18.
It should be reiterated that this will only affect the version for Nintendo Wii U, so you can continue to buy it without problems on Nintendo Switch. It is unknown if this will affect players in America. So far it is unknown what is the reason why these titles are no longer for sale in its version for Wii U. We will stay tuned and inform you when we know more.
In case you don’t know, Bayonetta 2 is an action game developed by PlatinumGames that arrived in 2014 as an exclusive for Wii U. This title came accompanied by a port of Bayonetta, which until then was only available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, so that the Nintendo community could enjoy the full adventure.
