Back at this year’s E3, Nintendo caught a lot of people off guard by announcing a straight up sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Now, a leak has given us information about the new game, including a title (The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Darkness), some gameplay hints, and more.
While there’s no indication that the leak is actually true (short of a confirmation from Nintendo), we still haven’t gotten any real information about the game since it was first shown at E3. Along with the aforementioned information, for instance, the game would also be a launch title to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Considering that the original Nintendo Switch has only been out for almost three years by this point, it seems fairly counterintuitive for Nintendo to abandon it in favor of the next generation, or at least if the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 is just a slight upgrade. The Switch 2 would also supposedly be able to run this game at 60 fps and 4k resolution.
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Darkness appears to be somewhat different from the other Zelda games, even Breath of the Wild, as Zelda will be your constant traveling companion and helper in battle. She will highlight the enemy’s weaknesses, and protect Link when he’s been downed.
According to the leaker, gameplay was shown of the game with Link and Zelda fighting a Dark Guardian (likely a more shadowy version of the robotic enemies Breath of the Wild players fought so much) in underground ruins, the same place seen in the E3 2019 trailer.
Once again this leak should be taken with a grain of salt, as we have no idea of how true it is or if the game’s name is even going to be Legend of Zelda Breath of the Darkness at all, rather than Breath of the Wild 2 or something similar.
All we can do is just wait for Nintendo to unveil more about the new Legend of Zelda game sometime in the future, and hopefully it won’t take as long to come out as Breath of the Wild did.
