The Chimerist’s Last Experiment is a Faction quest in The Outer Worlds. Faction quests are optional to the players and if the player wishes to complete them, they are rewarded with special items, XP and reputation of the faction.

After completing the Ice Palace Quest, Lilya Hagen tells you that the evidence that you found in Cascasia and HRS-1084 have convinced her that Dr. Eva Chartrand is at the center of an alien invasion conspiracy. She wants you to kill Chartrand for the good for humanity.
The quest is obtained after completing The Ice Palace quest and speaking to Lilya Hagen on the Groundbreaker. The quest objectives are as follows:
- Find Dr. Eva Chartrand.
- Question Dr. Eva Chartrand.
- Return to Lilya Hagen.
After talking to Lilya Hagen to start the quest, Head to Byzantium where Dr. Chartrand’s house is located. Use the Byzantium estate key given to you by Lilya Hagen and to open the door and enter Dr.
Chartrand’s home. Inside the house, use the terminal to read the logs and notes. Some of the notes mention you checking the lab on Cascadia and your takeover of HS-1084. Use the same terminal to open the lab and into the elevator.
Go forward and confront Dr. Chartrand. Tell her that Lilya Hagen has sent you here to kill her, to which she will say that she does not know Lilya. Lie (1) to her to get her to tell you what she is doing.
She will tell you that she is finding new ways to feed the colony, as the crops that humanity brought from Earth are not reacting to the local atmosphere and providing insufficient nutrients to humans.
Chartrand will tell you that unless she finds a way to alter human’s behavior on Halcyon diet, the colony will starve. She will reveal that they didn’t want to experiment on humans, so they did so on each other. She will also tell you that they contacted people on Earth many years ago and never heard back from them.
You can give her the option to work with Phineas Welles. She will agree and you’ll gain 15000 XP and gain negative reputation with The Board. You will have to convince the guard to not attack you and mention Sophia, persuade him (100) or bribe with 2673 bits.
When you return to Lilya, you will gain 35,000 XP and negative reputation with SubLight Salvage and Shipping.
Or you can give her the option to work with The Board. She will agree and you’ll gain 15000 XP and gain Positive reputation with The Board. You will have to convince the guard to not attack you. When you return to Lilya, you will gain 35,000 XP and negative reputation with SubLight Salvage and Shipping.
Or you can kill her, which will result in negative reputation with The Board. Travel back to speak to Lilya on the Groundbreaker.
You will receive 35000 XP, 2188 bits, SubLight VP Armor and SubLight to the End trophy. You will also be promoted “Vice President of Aggressive Acquisitions”. You will find a SubLight Salvage poster when you return to your ship.
Finishing the quest rewards you 35000-20000 XP, 2188 Bits and Reputation based on the choices you made throughout the quest.
