The controversy surrounding Blizzard over the sanctions they applied to Blitzchung, a professional Hearthstone player, for the support he gave to society’s protests in Hong Kong against the Chinese government, continue to have an impact and it seems that the company is currently in its damage control phase with games like Overwatch.
We tell you this because a few moments ago the cancellation of the event that was scheduled for the presentation of Overwatch on Switch in the Nintendo store in New York was announced. The official account of the Nintendo store in New York reported that the Overwatch presentation event that was scheduled for October 16 at its facilities was canceled at Blizzard’s request.
Along with the announcement of the cancellation, the account apologized to the fans for the inconvenience caused since one of the activities that were scheduled for that day was a meeting with the voice actors from the Overwatch characters, which was reserved for the first 150 fans who registered on the store site.
Please be aware that the previously announced Overwatch launch event scheduled for Wednesday, 10/16 at NintendoNYC has been canceled by Blizzard. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Although the reason for the cancellation was not disclosed, some opinions consider that Blizzard is trying to get ahead of possible protests after the criticism received in recent days for the position they adopted when sanctioning Blitzchung, which was taken as a decision contrary to the principles and freedom of expression rights for their business relationship with China.
Precisely, one of the forms of protest that have taken place by the community is the fact that Overwatch players are playing with Mei, considering it as a symbol of Hong Kong’s freedom.
In one of the recent Nintendo Directs, Blizzard surprised Nintendo fans after officially revealing that Overwatch would reach the hybrid console. Something that excited fans the most is that the game would have a physical edition, as they would have the game box even if it didn’t include the cartridge. Now we know what will be the space needed to download it.
A notice appears on the cover of the game that the box will not include the cartridge or game card, as revealed during the Nintendo Direct. This means that users will have to download the complete game through the Nintendo eShop with the code that will come inside the box and we inform you that in order to enjoy it you must have 12.1 GB of free storage in the console.
It is important to mention that the arrival of Overwatch only in the form of a download code does not take some players by surprise; after all, it is a common practice in Nintendo Switch games, but others were hoping to have the game updated in a cartridge, especially if we consider that The Witcher III: Wild Hunt for this console got it.
We remind you that the Overwatch: Legendary Edition will be priced at $39.99 and will also include several aspects for some heroes and 3 months subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, so you can enjoy the multiplayer component of the delivery without worrying about spending on renewing your membership.
