New PS VR Patent Could Be Destined For Playstation 5

A new patent for the PSVR has appeared recently hinting the possibility of it being the Playstation 5 VR kit. The kit includes additional cameras to the motion controller, wired connectivity and more.

The news about the supposed Playstation 5 VR kit originates from LetsGoDigital. The same source has previously dug up the Playstation 5 developer kit. The patent includes a picture of both the headset and motion controller for the PS VR.

The image for the new Playstation VR shows the headset including 4 cameras in total. The two of them are on the front and two on the back. In addition, one additional camera is set on the new controller. This will give the user a stereoscopic view while letting him see the surroundings with ease.

What’s interesting is that the controller could also include the new haptic feedback feature that was confirmed for the Playstation 5 Dualshock. It’s not far from reality to compare the new controller to how the PS Camera worked before.

The most important addition to the supposed Playstation 5 Virtual Reality kit is wireless connectivity. The new model will connect to your console via Bluetooth, giving you more space to move.

Interestingly, the first-ever Playstation 5 rumors make it clear that virtual reality will be of huge importance. It wouldn’t be far from reality to say that the Virtual Reality kit will be in the basic package. Even if that is not the case, Sony will make sure that the VR kit will become a necessity for the next-generation console. With the power of Playstation 5, VR can finally shine.

A few months back, Dominic Mallinson, global head of Research and Development for PlayStation, stated he didn’t want gamers to be bombarded with multiple new pieces of hardware at the same time. In an interview, Dominic went on to say that “From the point of view of the consumer, to be bombarded with many many things – oh, you have to buy this, you have to buy that – is a message that we don’t want to send.”

Will this mean that the Playstation 5 VR won’t even be a reality or that it will release in the future? We’ll have to wait until 2020 for Sony to be able to reveal more information about their next-generation console with the industry.
