We have known for a while that Sony is preparing several improvements for PlayStation 4. The company confirmed that the official release of its console’s 7.00 firmware is just around the corner, so they detailed every novelty that they will integrate with the update.
For starters, the update will be available as of today, October 8. One of the confirmed improvements is related to the PS4 Remote Play function, which recently arrived on iPhone and iPad.
Users of Android devices can also take advantage of the PS4 Remote Play feature, which allows you to enjoy PlayStation 4 titles from a mobile or tablet. This will require downloading the Remote Play application on Google Play and having Android 5.0 or higher.
Sony updated this app for iOS users, who will now be able to display controls at all times, as well as lock screen orientation for a better gaming experience. As if that were not enough, it will be possible to use a DualShock 4 via Bluetooth on Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac.
For the PS4 remote to be compatible, it will be necessary to update or have Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13 or macOS Catalina (which releases in October).
Another firmware enhancement brings changes to the Party function. Now the groups of players will admit a maximum of 16 members, instead of only 8. There will also be optimizations for network connectivity and audio quality.
The Party App will now offer a chat transcript feature on mobile devices. However, this option will be enabled for now in the United States and will be compatible only with English from that country.
Main Party Updates:
- Maximum number of Party users increased from 8 to 16
- Network connectivity improved
- Audio quality improved
- Accessibility support with Chat Transcription has been added (US Only)
In other recent news, when Sony announced the arrival of cross-play to popular games like Fortnite, it became clear that the feature was barely in a Beta stage. As such, it could only be used by a handful of developers. That said, it seems that this period has recently changed and is now accessible to any studio that wants to implement it in their PS4 games.
According to a Wired article, cross-play is available to any developer who wants to implement it in their games. They also noted that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the first premiere to take advantage of this version of cross-play on PS4.
Remember that the shooter of Infinity Ward and Activision will be released with cross-play so that PC players, Xbox One and PS4 can play together.
In case you don’t know, the beta of the cross-play on PS4 included games like Fortnite and Rocket League, but little by little more games were joining this trend in the Sony console. Hopefully, the end of this Beta means that they will implement the cross-play in more games.
We took advantage of the fact that we talked about cross-play to tell you that an update arrived yesterday that added cross-play to the PUBG version for consoles.
On the other hand, you should know that in recent weeks several titles of Hi-Rez Studios like Paladins and Realm Royale for PS4 joined the cross-play with other platforms.
