Microsoft Patents A New Technology In Virtual Reality Called The Xbox VR Mat

Microsoft has applied a new patent related to Virtual Reality (VR) on Xbox in the US trademark registry. The American studio which wants to continue bringing digital entertainment with innovative technology, shows an image where a player appears using peripherals to play in front of the TV, which also has a device that appears to be Kinect.

At no time is an eventual link to this patent mentioned with Project Scarlett, the company’s next generation of consoles, but this patent is codenamed Xbox VR Mat.

This is not the only record of the Xbox VR Mat application, which became effective on October 3 in the United States Patent Application, but also suggests that the development team is developing a type of motion controller for the console with which we would be able to use, with one hand, action control, while with the other we would use what is traditionally dedicated to the directional pad.

Finally, a stylus appears in the Xbox VR Mat document very similar to what can be seen in current tablets or smartphones such as Apple Pencil or the Samsung Galaxy Note range.

Like any patent registration, it does not imply the direct or short-term materialization of devices or products for sale to the public, although it does confirm that Microsoft is working with the Xbox department in virtual reality to make the Xbox VR Mat a real thing.

Regarding Xbox Project Scarlett, Microsoft has denied working in a console integrated glasses to facilitate streaming of games without external devices, as suggested by a source.

The news of the brand calls us to the next X019 to be held in London, England, from November 14 to 16, the last great event of the year where fans of the brand can know all the news about the future of Xbox One.

As it usually happens in all editions of Inside Xbox, it is expected that there will be news for Xbox One and Windows 10. At the moment, the information is very scarce. Don’t expect any news regarding the Xbox VR Mat.

There will be special panels with some of the Xbox Game Studios teams, which we remember are now a total of fifteen after the incorporation of Double Fine this year.

According to the information, there will also be meet and greet with the developers, who will be exposed to all kinds of questions.

In the absence of knowing what studios will be involved, we know that the fifteen internal Xbox Game Studios studios are as follows:

  • 343 Industries
  • The Coalition
  • Compulsion Games
  • The Initiative
  • inXilie Entertainment
  • Minecraft
  • Ninja Theory
  • Obsidian Entertainment
  • Playground Games
  • Rare
  • Turn 10 Studios
  • Undead Labs
  • Moon Studios
  • Xbox itself
  • Double Fine.

Microsoft’s commitment, in the voice of Xbox Game Studios chief Matt Booty, is that there is a steady stream of games from now on. He said that they would love to offer high quality games on their Xbox Game Pass service every three months.

For the manager, the main reason to be part of the Xbox Game Pass is precisely that constant arrival of new games every month.

Xbox is very busy at the moment like working on the Xbox VR Mat, but that’s understandable. Comparing the sales of PS4 and the Xbox One, the Sony console won this war. Xbox wants to win the next one, and they will do everything to achieve this.
