While NBA 2K20 is already being lambasted by many as a horrible game, FIFA 20, or at least the FIFA 20 career mode, also appears to be souring a lot of fans of the series. The career mode, formerly one of the most-played aspects of the game, is now the subject of immense criticism.
FIFA career modes are normally the most player-controlled parts of the entire game, allowing FIFA fans to pick their own football club and their own player, and run them through a successful career as a soccer star. However, the FIFA 20 mode appears to be nearly unplayable, going by player reactions.
Various lists of bugs and other issues, including repetitive press conference answers, a player’s position switching whenever you edit them, no risks or rewards at press conferences, customization issues (such as lowing a player’s overall rating when you edit them), and more have all come to the forefront.
Considering that FIFA 20 is a yearly release, this might have been the result of crunch time, meaning that the developers missed a ton of bugs and other issues due having to get the new game ready in time for FIFA Friday, when a FIFA game normally comes out over the course of a year.
If that’s the case, and crunch time is the reason for the poor quality of the FIFA 20 career mode, this might be another stab in the “yearly game release” market’s eye, especially considering the WWE 2K and NBA 2K games have been getting worse and worse receptions lately.
While various other sports games like the also-yearly NFL series seem to be of a higher quality, hopefully the poor reception of FIFA 20 will cause EA Sports to sit up and take notice. Then again, with how popular the game is, and the constant pressure on these games to keep up with the latest teams and players, who knows if that will actually happen.
If you want to stomach trying to play the game yourself, you can play FIFA 20 on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC now.
