If you’ve been worried about playing the upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare on multiple platforms once it comes out, you won’t have to worry about that. A recent leaked email with Activision Player Support has confirmed that cross progression, at least between the Xbox One and PC, will be available.
According to the Player Support representative, Activision and Infinity Ward have accomplished this by making it so that player accounts are tied into Activision.com, rather than the individual Clouds of your various platforms. This will allow you to keep all of your weapons, progression, and stats with you wherever you decide to play.
While the support email that confirmed this didn’t say whether or not the same thing would apply to the Playstation 4 version of the game (since Playstation has been rather spotty on cross-platform support for various games), we do know that cross progression is confirmed for the Xbox One and PC.
However, there is one aspect of the game’s progressions system that won’t carry over from platform to platform. Due to achievements being different from one another depending on platform, you won’t be getting the same achievements so you’ll have to earn them all again.
This could be a significant hurdle if you’re a good ways into getting a certain achievement that requires you to grind things out, but otherwise likely won’t be that big of a deal depending on your dedication to getting the achievements in the game.
Cross progression is definitely a handy thing if you’re wanting to play with friends on other consoles, so if you were looking forward to getting Call of Duty Modern Warfare when it releases on October 25 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, you might have a reason to play it now.
However it goes, though, if you were worried about being able to play with friends on both the Xbox One and the PC (since cross progression had been in discussion as late as early August), then you’re in good hands.
