Despite it being over a month before Death Stranding is supposed to be releasing on the Playstation 4, at least one member of the Death Stranding subreddit has already found copies of the game out in the wild. While we don’t know how many there are, be aware of spoilers, everyone.
Death Stranding isn’t supposed to release until November 8, meaning that we’ve still got around five weeks until the game is actually supposed to come out. While games being released early isn’t exactly new, as plenty of retailers have jumped the gun before, it’s very rare that they’re on shelves this early.
The post on the subreddit doesn’t show the front of the box (since we’ve already seen the box art anyway), but it does show us the back of the box and everything on it. This includes the faces of all of the notable characters, though the back of the box is just in Japanese.
If it is just in Japan that the Death Stranding boxes are already ending up on shelves, then it’s not that big of an issue. All we can really hope for is that the boxes haven’t been put on shelves in other locations.
It’s only natural that something like this would happen; Death Stranding is Hideo Kojima’s first big game since Metal Gear Solid 5 back in 2015, which turned sour for him when Konami fired him during the middle of the game’s development, causing Metal Gear Solid 5 to ship unfinished.
There’s been a massive amount of hype around Death Stranding since it was first unveiled at Playstation’s E3 2016 conference, and now that we’re only a little over a month away from it releasing, who knows how many retailers will jump the gun.
Either way, be on the lookout for spoilers. Death Stranding is slated to be releasing on the Playstation 4 on November 8, with more platforms following at a later date.
