The upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare generated a lot of controversy recently when it was revealed that some content would be a timed exclusive to the Playstation 4 before it was released to the other platforms that the game was coming out on. Not even the devs are happy about it, apparently.
The Modern Warfare multiplayer mode “Survival” is a mode where a team of players faces off against an ever-increasing horde of enemies to defend a position. Back in the days when Spec Ops missions were available in Call of Duty games, multiple Spec Ops missions were Survival ones, but unfortunately it seems like that’s not happening this time.
Unsurprisingly, the Modern Warfare devs have nothing to say about Modern Warfare PS4 exclusivity in regards to its multiplayer, with them saying the decision was made well above their pay grades, likely referring to their bosses at Activision.
This isn’t the first time that a first-person shooter under Activision’s umbrella has caught flak for restricting content to the Playstation 4 for a certain period of time. The Destiny games both dealt with that same issue when Bungie was working with Activision as their publisher.
Just like with Destiny, the various Call of Duty timed Playstation 4 exclusives include everything from maps to various weapons, and now the Survival mode in Modern Warfare. However, Infinity Ward has said that Survival is only one small sliver of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Modern Warfare is set to be a reboot and reimagining of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game, which came out in 2007 and cemented Call of Duty as one of the big-name first person shooter games on the market.
Despite the Modern Warfare PS4 exclusivity news for Survival, hopefully there will still be plenty of other stuff for people to do in the game’s multiplayer when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare comes out on October 25 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
