Marvel’s Avengers Will Be New And Original Like The Reboot Of Tomb Raider

Crystal Dynamics compared Marvel's Avengers with the reboot of Tomb Raider in 2013, and like that reboot, will be "new and original".

The launch of Marvel’s Avengers, which with each teaser or info convinces us more, is a great opportunity for Crystal Dynamics, now that they have been able to engage in a new project after finishing with the new trilogy of Lara Croft, although the last installment was created by Eidos Montreal.

In fact, the developers compared Marvel’s Avengers precisely with the reboot of Tomb Raider in 2013, which caused a great impact, and like that reboot, it will be “new and original” according to Studio Head Scot Amos.

We stake our reputation on it! Just like we approached Lara Croft back in 2013, we want to show the world how we do things in a new and original way.

Although Crystal Dynamics are those who carry the singing voice of the development of the game, it is worth mentioning that there are no less than four different studios who work on the title, without having to negatively affect the process, according to Amos.

Things are working in an almost magical way. Four of the five studios have collaborated many times in the past, and the fifth is a new studio created by our people, so we know who we’re working with — if we didn’t have those relationships, it’d be tough.

Amos also delves into what it is like to work this way.

Inside of Crystal Dynamics we have our ‘PET team’ — the Player-Enemy Team. They’re the heart and soul of all the character design, the move sets and the combat styles. Then you have the Heroic moves that you’ll have seen in the demo, which are things you’ve never seen these guys do before.

Shaun Escayg, our Creative Director, along with Bill Rosemann, VP & Creative Director at Marvel Games and his team, collaborate on everything.

Marvel, from the beginning have been great and pushing us to be authentic, but also original. They have 80 years of content to draw from, and it’s not just how they play, it’s how they look and interact.

So there’s been a process where they’ll let us go in our own direction while still drawing on that history, saying, ‘Hey remember this comic, or this one panel where Hulk did X,Y,Z — what’s your take on that?’ And we love that. We’re huge fans first and foremost.

Marvel’s Avengers will have a total of five selectable characters. This is an amount that will be extended over time with DLC characters, as well as that of enemies, with the intention that they feel completely new, not mere reskins.

All the DLC characters will have their own abilities and unique aspects of the gameplay.

This has been made known by Scot Amos. He has repeated the fact that these new fighters will not only be changed based on their aesthetics. They will have their own missions to deepen their individual history.

They gave no names regarding future heroes, however. Those new additions will arrive for free. Phew!

I remind you that Marvel’s Avengers will arrive on May 15, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
