All Nioh Weapon Types Will Return In Nioh 2 With New Moves

You’ll be fairly pleased to know that all of the five weapon types from the first game are going to return in Nioh 2 with brand new moves and abilities.

While confirming this query in a question-and-answer session at Tokyo Game Show 2019, general producer Hisashi Koinuma also added that there will be new weapon types in the anticipated sequel as well. However, those are being kept safe for the time being and will be revealed at a later date.

This naturally means that Nioh 2 will have the sword, axe, dual sword, kusarigama, and spear weapon types. If you have played the first game, you’ll know for yourself that the kusarigama and spear were just deadly. Kusarigama had low damage but its quick strikes and superb moveset in all stances made it one of the best weapon types in the game. As for the spear, its incredible range offered a huge advantageous poke that kept you safe. You could never go wrong with either of the two aforementioned weapon types. This will probably remain true in Nioh 2 unless Team Ninja has something special to convince players otherwise.

The same developer panel also confirmed that carrying forward your save data from the first game will give you bonuses in Nioh 2. However, those bonuses were not revealed. Also, you’ll be able to change your avatar from certain locations in the sequel. This is another improvement over the first game where you were stuck with the same avatar per save slot.

Nioh 2 received a trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2019 that shows off some of the characters, enemies, spirits, and yokai in both in-engine cut-scenes and gameplay. Particularly, it shows off some of the bosses in action and they already look challenging. For those unaware, the main character will be able to transform into a fearsome yokai as well, which will take you into the dark realm where the difficulty curve smashed through the ceiling.

Last year, we crafted a wishlist about things to see in Nioh 2. We missed out on mentioning the return of the existing weapon types, but it does seem like that Team Ninja has acted on a lot of feedback from the players.

Nioh 2 is scheduled for an early launch in 2020 for PlayStation 4.
