Vice President Of Naughty Dog Loves Gears 5, Excited Enough?

Gears of War 5 is well on its way to releasing in a matter of days. Neil Druckmann, vice president of Naughty Dog got an early peek at the game, however. If you’re not familiar with Naughty Dog, they’re the minds behind the upcoming The Last of Us 2. We don’t know when that game is coming out yet but at least we can occupy ourselves with Gears 5. Why do I say that? Because according to Neil, the game is a masterpiece supposedly.

Don’t take my word for it though, take his. Here’s a Tweet he put out regarding his early access code to Gears 5.

It’s not uncommon for developers to get early access to each other’s games. It’s a great thing for promotion too, while simultaneously establishing good relations. I mean Cory Balrog, director of God of War, has played Death Stranding and commended it. This established a link between Santa Monica Studios and Kojima Productions.

But then is it really just promotion? I don’t think I can recall any time that a developer bad mouthed the other’s game after getting an early copy. I mean, that wouldn’t be considered courteous at all right? That makes one wonder if the early code was given with the condition to be nice, perhaps.

Gears 5 has been shaping up to try setting a better precedent for modern games nowadays by showing abstinence from Lootboxes or “Surprise mechanics”. The fact that rewards you get from the last game have a chance of carrying over onto the next one is a pretty good thing. Lastly, the free maps and other would-be DLC content to keep players connected with each other throughout is something every game should do.

The Last of Us 2 on the other hand is still pretty shrouded in mystery. At most, we’ve got a lot of artwork leaks and a handful of trailers. Those trailers also being more CG and cinematic than they were of actual gameplay. The game’s been in development for a pretty long time. Like Cyberpunk 2077, I feel like it’s facing the threat of overhype. Troy Baker telling fans they aren’t ready isn’t helping the case either.

I’m not sure a playable build or any sort of The Last of Us 2 demo is even ready. We haven’t seen anything at E3 2019 or even the recent Gamescom 2019. What’s up Naughty Dog?

Coming back to the original topic though, at least we’re more assured that Gears 5 won’t be a letdown right? Hopefully so. If you still don’t know that when Gears 5 is coming out? The game is scheduled to release on September 6 for masses. You can pre-load the game now if you have already pre-ordered it or a member of Game Pass.
