Borderlands 3 is going to be released soon. And as you can guess, it will get post release content which is already in development. And now the schedule of the first phase for the post release content has been revealed by Gearbox at Pax West.
There are three content drops scheduled to release this year. After that, there will be more in 2020.
First up, Borderlands 3 will have a Halloween-themed limited-time event called Bloody Harvest. As you can guess, this event will include thematically spooky activities and side missions.
Completion of these will allow you to unlock unique rewards. This will be followed by a much larger expansion called Maliwan Takedown.
We say that it’s much larger, because the expansion adds a whole new map to Borderlands 3. Not only that, but there will be completely new enemies, a never-before-seen boss, and powerful weapons and rewards. Both Bloody Harvest and Maliwan Takedown will be free.
And winding up the first phase, there will be a DLC expansion. Unlike the previous two expansions, these will be paid. The money is being justified by saying that there will be a lot more content than the free add-ons. The season pass will contain all the DLCs, so if you want to pay only once(every season), that works.
The DLC will also add new side missions, enemies, and loot. In addition to that, Borderlands 3 with campaign missions that act as a sequel to the game’s story.
It will be interesting to see how Gearbox handles Borderlands 3 going into 2020, given the landscape of loot shooter games. Post-release content for Borderlands 2 was largely new playable Vault Hunters or additional story missions that could be tackled with another person if you wanted.
In the past, the Borderlands series didn’t have post release content, so this is a new strategy. However in a new world, perhaps this is needed. Games that don’t have post release support are heavily bashed while those that regularly release content are appreciated, so lets see how it is.
Borderlands 3 is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on September 13. On PC, the game has a limited-time exclusivity deal with the Epic Games Store. Borderlands 3 is also scheduled to release on Google Stadia.
