So as we draw closer to that sweet sweet Cyberpunk 2077 release date, a lot of questions linger on people’s minds. One of those questions is just how big the Cyberpunk 2077 map will be? CD Projekt Red have assured us that while it’s not as big as The Witcher 3, the map will be much denser and pretty extra thicc if you know what I mean.
The statement was made by producer Richard Borzymowski. Regarding the Cyberpunk 2077 map, here’s what he had to say:
blockquote>”Obviously, in The Witcher 3 we had an open world with many paths and forests between small settlements and big cities like Novigrad, but Cyberpunk 2077 is set in Night City. It is an integral part of the setting; essentially, it is as if it were the protagonist, therefore it must be denser. We would not have achieved the effect we wanted if it had not been credible, so we filled it with life.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was described once before by CD Projekt Red as very vertical in nature. Plus, considering the absence of procedural generation and how everything was crafted by hand, it makes sense the world isn’t too huge.
To further justify the shorter size, they also compared what the games were about. The Witcher 3 involved a lot of wild lands type exploration. When you weren’t ploughing hoes in Novigrad, you were searching the open marshes for your next Witcher contract.
Cyberpunk 2077 on the other hand will have you exploring every nook and cranny of each building in the compressed map. This includes different levels of the building that have varying degrees of transportation within them. They could be elevators, escalators or stairs. Maybe some other interesting method CD Projekt Red has cooked up.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release in 2020, a year that’s getting harder and harder to wait for. Hopefully the game lives up to all its hype.
