A tweet from Geoff Keighley, owner of Gamescom 2019, teased about how we’ll be seeing a lot of gameplay at the event. This is good news for gamers since cinematic CG trailers are usually misleading. Considering Kojima Productions and Death Stranding have a showcase, we can probably expect a Death Stranding gameplay trailer.
Here’s the tweet regarding the lack of CG trailers at Gamescom 2019:
This is a nice showcase of upcoming games with lots of gameplay.
I don’t think there’s one CG trailer in there. A few fun announcements and surprises along the way, but more than anything a great platform to celebrate the global gaming community!

This story isn’t in any way intent on undermining CG/Cinematic video game trailers. Lullaby of Woe remains one of my favorite trailers ever to this day. However, they don’t do a good job of showcasing what the game will actually be like. That’s why people prefer to see gameplay trailers.
Death Stranding has showcased a good chunk of gameplay by now. People still do crave more, however. That’s what we hope to see at Gamescom 2019 today.
Hideo Kojima has mentioned the Gamescom 2019 reveal earlier this month. He did mention it as a reveal though. Could that mean we’re going to have more of an emphasis on the story instead of the gameplay? In that case this might be a cinematic trailer after all.
What are people more interested in though? The story and context of Death Stranding or the gameplay aspect of it? Gamescom 2019 does have several games lined up for gameplay focused trailers. This includes the Need for Speed Heat gameplay reveal and the Borderlands 3 endgame reveal.
Hopefully the multiplayer “connected” aspect that Hideo Kojima talked about might be described and maybe even shown. After all, the game was called Death Stranding for a reason.
Tune in later today for the panel at Gamescom 2019.
