A new Respawn Entertainmet game will apparently be revealed at the Oculus Connect event later this year, according to a statement by Oculus made to Destructoid. However, at the same time, Oculus also dashed our post-Apex Legends hopes with confirmation that the game was not related to Titanfall at all.
Respawn Entertainment made its name in the wider gaming scene by creating Titanfall as a first-person shooter game, where players could climb inside giant mechs (the titular Titans) and fight other players in their own mechs.
However, Respawn’s next foray into the Titanfall universe after Titanfall 1 and Titanfall 2 was instead Apex Legends, which barely had any resemblance to the Titanfall universe at all with no wall running, no IMC, no Militia, and most importantly, no Titans.
Apex Legends has been very successful for Respawn, which is good, but many fans of the studio still wanted a new Titanfall game. And it appears the wait will be continuing since the new Respawn Entertainment game is unrelated to Titanfall.
Of course, it’s not like Respawn hasn’t been exclusively working on Apex Legends, since they had a big showing of their upcoming Star Wars game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but that game will be coming out in November, while the Oculus Connect game will return to first-person.
Since Respawn has a lot of experience with well-regarded shooters, and was created from former Infinity Ward employees, it’s likely that whatever the new Respawn Entertainment game turns out to be, it will hopefully be highly polished and a lot of fun to play.
The Oculus Connect event will be happening in September, on September 25 and 26. So, until then, all we can do is speculate and guess about what exactly Respawn’s new game is, and be on the lookout for the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order when it releases on November 15.
