Tencent And Nintendo To Announce Switch Sales In China Next Month

Earlier this year in April, we got the news that Tencent, the giant Chinese publisher, partnered up with Nintendo to distribute the handheld Switch console in China. The Department of Culture of Guangdong Province in China approved the Nintendo Switch sales with Tencent as the distributor.

This partnership was great news for both Nintendo and Switch fans. Nintendo didn’t have any official presence in China before. This partnership was the exact thing Nintendo needed to solidify its presence in the Chinese sector.

And now it seems we are getting a major development regarding that partnership. Nintendo and Tencent Holding Ltd. Have announced a joint press conference on August 2nd, 2019 in Shanghai where both companies will speak about the Switch launch in China.

The news comes from Dr. Serkan Toto, who is the CEO of Tokyo-based game industry consultancy Katan Games. Toto shared the news regarding the upcoming joint press conference on to his Twitter account.

This joint press conference is very important because we might get a plethora of information such as Nintendo Switch’s launch price and date in China as well as any bonuses that may come along it.

It is likely we will also get more information regarding the Switch Lite in China, which was announced earlier this month. It is likely Tencent will also distribute the Switch Lite along with Switch’s base variant.

The Nintendo Switch has been massively successful in the US and Europe, but the portable console has only had a limited release in China. This is primarily due to Nintendo’s limited influence in the Chinese market but that is soon to change thanks to Tencent Holding Ltd.

Right now, the best thing to do is stay put and wait for Tencent and Nintendo’s joint press conference which is scheduled to take place on August 2nd, 2019 in Shanghai.
