A new Pokemon Go crossover event has arrived, and if you’re a fan of One Piece, this sort of thing might be for you. The Pokemon Go One Piece crossover event will allow players to catch a special Pikachu that’s wearing Luffy’s hat. However, it’ll only be available for a limited time.
The Pikachu will only be available for the next week before disappearing on July 29. Along with the Pikachu hat, during the event players will be able to buy One Piece-related gear in the Style Shop, letting you and Pikachu get matching outfits.
If you live in Japan, the event will be even more in-depth. Players that live in the Kumamoto Prefecture will be able to visit statues of Luffy and other One Piece characters, which will function as special Poke Stops.
The Pokemon Go One Piece crossover is only the most recent event added to Pokemon Go. Armored Mewtwo from Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution (the CGI remake of the first-ever Pokemon movie), for instance, is a raiding target, and has different stats and moves than the original Mewtwo.
Pokemon Go has been upgrading itself very quickly since it released in 2014. Despite a very evident fad showing, exploding in popularity and then sinking back into obscurity, the game seems to have stabilized with the addition of more Pokemon, better stability, and more updates.
For instance, the last major Pokemon Go update updated the game’s appraisal system, letting you see its moves, its Attack, Defense, and HP stats, and where and when you caught it. Another update is hinting that we may end up getting to battle Team Rocket grunts and catch the “Shadow” Pokemon they leave behind.
Of course, if you don’t care about all of this and just want a Pikachu with Luffy’s hat, you can still just participate in the Pokemon Go One Piece crossover, but once again it only goes until July 29.
