Nintendo Switch 2 Release Set for 2020 With Zelda Breath of the Darkness?

Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive by the end of 2020 along with the new Zelda Breath of the Darkness, according to a new rumor. This rumor or leak originated from 4Chan and later appeared on ResetEra.

However, we advise everyone to treat the provided information as a rumor for now since there’s no credibility of the source.

The leaker mentions that the full name of the upcoming console has yet to be decided. For now, the code for the new device is Nintendo Switch 2.

According to the leak, the new Switch model is designed to be more powerful than the standard Nintendo Switch console. Nintendo is aiming to offer home console gaming experience with Switch 2, similar to Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. Keeping that in mind, Switch 2 will be a home console only and not portable.

Interestingly, Nintendo wants to expand the Switch family eco-system with the release of Switch 2. This way, Switch 2 will act as a home console, Nintendo Switch Lite for portable gaming and standard Switch (with improved battery) for both home and portable gaming. The release date is not final yet but the leak mentions that Switch 2 release date could be some time between 2020 and 2021.

In addition to this, Nintendo is planning to release the new console with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel called Zelda Breath of the Darkness. The description of the upcoming game is as follows as provided on 4Chan.

In a world of ruins, only the power of the united Tri-force can stop a Millenial curse, once confined with a dark power sealed by time and darkness, which has finally awakened.

That’s pretty much all that was mentioned in the leak. To be honest, the leak is very interesting and it’s safe to assume that Nintendo will at some point build a powerful home console to compete with Sony and Microsoft. Maybe Nintendo is waiting until 2020 in order to reveal Switch console before or after the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett.

Nintendo made it clear recently that the team is always working on new hardware so it’s possible that Switch 2 is already in development.

We acknowledge that there have been reports [about this]. Answering to rumours and speculations would end up stealing surprises from our customers and also be unprofitable to all of our shareholders, so we have no answer to that. As a general theory, we are always performing development of new hardware.

For now, we can do nothing but wait to see if Switch 2 rumors are true or not. Until then, we have other Nintendo Switch hardware to look out for including Switch Lite. Nintendo Switch Lite is set for release on September 20, 2019, and is now available for pre-order.
