Gears 5 Is Biggest Gears of War Game Ever Made

Hyping your game before launch is natural but The Coalition's claim that Gears 5 will be the largest game in the Series? That requires guts.

We have previously written about how The Coalition had ambitious plans for Gears 5. Ron Fergusson had talked about how they had played it safe with Gears 4, which had caused some resentment. Now Gears 5’s design director has expanded on what those ambitious plans are.

In an interview with Game Informer, Gears 5’s multiplayer design director Ryan Cleven talked about it where he called it the largest game in the series to date. This means large everything; campaign, PvE offerings, and largest ever Versus.

Gears 5 is the largest Gears of War to date; it’s the largest campaign ever made, the largest PvE ever made, the largest versus ever made.

Information on the game’s campaign is mostly speculation. This started right after The Coalition revealed it at E3 2018 (there were some leaks here and there that helped as well). What we have gathered is that Kait, a new character from Gears 4, is a descendant of the Locust Queen. She will be the protagonist of the game. Perhaps her character arc will revolve around her heritage and her team, making it a battle of loyalties.

The Coalition’s focus has been on giving the game’s multiplayer quite a good bit of exposure. This includes the new Escape Mode and map editor that comes along with it, and a whole lot else. Does it deserve the Design Director’s hype as the largest game in the series? We don’t have enough to judge that right now. However, as The Coalition promises to reveal more details soon, we will know better.

Gears 5 is out on September 10 for the Xbox One and PC- but a tech test for its Versus component will be going live tomorrow for Game Pass subscribers and pre-order holders.
