PlayStation 4 Software Update 6.72 Out Now Ahead of Major Update Release

PlayStation 4 software update 6.72 is now available for download. The latest system software update will update your PS4 from its previous version 6.71 to the new 6.72 version.

The new PlayStation 4 update 6.72 does nothing but improves the performance of the system. In short, it’s a minor update. However, it’s required to be installed if you want to have access to the online features on your PS4.

Below is the official description of PS4 firmware update 6.72 as provided by Sony.

This system software update improves system performance.

The size of the update is only 440 MB and the patch consists of 995 MB. To install, all you have to do is turn on your PS4 system and this new update will start downloading automatically. If you don’t want to do that, you can download PS4 firmware update 6.72 from Sony’s official site and install it manually.

Sony often releases these kind of minor updates ahead of a major update release. As we reported before, Sony recently gave some lucky users a chance to try out PlayStation 4 software update 6.80.

Upcoming PS4 6.80 update consists of some exciting new features. It allowed a total of 16 players to participate in party chat instead of the current eight. In addition to this, the preview of the update included a new chat transcription feature. This chat transcription converts party voice chat into text and vice versa.

Above all, the preview of 6.80 consisted of network connection optimizations.

With that said, it’s possible that Sony is setting up things for the release of 6.80 update by releasing minor PS4 updates like 6.72. This is great news for everyone waiting to use new features on PS4.

Sony has done a great job when it comes to bringing new features to PlayStation 4 in 2019. Previously, PlayStation 4 system software update was released which allowed iOS users to use Remote Play with the console without the need of any third-party applications. The remote play feature allows players to control PS4 with devices such as smartphones (iPhones) and tablets (iPad). It’s expected that more useful features like Remote play will be released soon.

We can expect Sony to release PlayStation 4 software update 6.80 in the upcoming weeks. Aside from these PS4 updates, Sony is busy working on next-generation PlayStation 5 console. It’s rumored that PS5 will release at the end of 2020.

It’s possible that we will see the return of XMB (cross-media bar) in PlayStation 5 with amazing new PSN features. With the release of PS5, we will also get rid of the sluggish menus of PlayStation 4.

Sony is expected to show PS5 at PlayStation Experience 2019. Maybe that’s when Sony will also talk about the upcoming new system software that will ship with its next-generation system.
