It has almost been two years since Until Dawn got released and the success of the first game left fans wondering when they will be able to get their hands on Until Dawn 2. We recently got an update regarding Until Dawn 2 from the developer, Supermassive Games.
During an interview with Game Reactor.eu, Pete Samuels, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Supermassive Games, spoke a bit about Until Dawn 2, the current focus of the company, and what it plans to accomplish in the future.
According to Samuels:
“Right at this moment in time I can’t imagine a world where we will make more games in the Until Dawn universe, but things change, you know. I don’t know if we’ll feel that way in a year’s time, two years’ time, but there’s certainly no plans at the moment.”
Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn was a horror based interactive drama adventure game that came out in 2015. It was met with positive reviews. According to Chart-Track, Until Dawn was the second-best-selling retail game in the UK in its first week of release.
Thousands of content creators and players streamed the game onto platforms such as YouTube and Twitch in the form of reaction and gaming videos. Due to this positive reception, Until Dawn was called a “Sleeper Hit”.
Of course, this disappointed a lot of fans but a lot of time has passed between 2016 and 19. Fans are still expecting Until Dawn 2 but it seems Supermassive Games is still preoccupied with other projects.
Right now, Supermassive Games is focusing on The Dark Pictures Anthology—a series consisting of eight horror games, each with its own storyline but set within a single universe. This is a very ambitious project from Supermassive Games which plans to release a new title every six months.
As you can imagine, this will have Supermassive Games occupied for quite some time, so it is very unlikely we will be getting Until Dawn 2 anytime soon.
Even though each game will be its own storyline in The Dark Pictures Anthology, it will all be tied together with a mysterious character called “The Curator”. According to Pete Samuels,
“We [Supermassive Games] have an arc in mind that plays out over eight games. He [The Curator] is really the only consistency across the Anthology. Everything else from a story, character perspective, we want to be a surprise.”
The Dark Anthology will start with Man of Medan, which has a release date set for August 30, 2019, for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. In addition to this, Man of Medan is also a co-op consisting of two-players using online play.
