Modern Warfare Cross-Play Will Unite Call of Duty Community, Says Activision

Activision announced yesterday that Modern Warfare will unite the Call of Duty community with the new cross-play feature across all platforms. For those who don’t know, Modern Warfare will be the first-ever game in Call of Duty franchise to support cross-platform play.

The publisher revealed the information above in a post following the first reveal of Modern Warfare multiplayer gameplay. Here’s what Activision said:

Featuring unified progression across modes, Modern Warfare seeks to unite the community with plans to support cross-play across platforms and the removal of the traditional season pass in order to deliver a greater mix of more free maps, content and community events post-launch.

The cross-play feature is already up and working for all of the game’s platforms, according to Infinity Ward’s narrative director Taylor Kurosaki.

Modern Warfare crossplay platforms include Sony Playstation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One, and Windows PC. It’s unclear at this point if PlayStation 4 players will be able to play directly with Xbox One players or not.

As hinted previously by Infinity Ward’s producer Candice Harris, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cross-play will work similarly to Fortnite. It means that Modern Warfare players will be matched with players on other platforms that have a similar input device.

In short, if you are playing with a controller, you will be dropped in lobbies where everyone else is also using a controller. On the other hand, if your party consists of mixed input devices then you will be matched with mixed players regardless of their input device like Keyboard and controller etc.

Basically, the above method will allow fair gameplay experience. Because trust me, nobody with a controller wants to play against someone with a keyboard and mouse, especially in Call of Duty games.

However, Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to officially reveal how cross-play will exactly work.

We can expect the team to show how cross-play works in the game next month. The publisher confirmed yesterday that full COD Modern Warfare multiplayer gameplay reveal will be on August 1.

Other than cross-play, Activision also revealed that the game will support unified progression across modes. It appears that playing Spec Ops in Modern Warfare will help players progress in multiplayer mode as well.

Apart from that, Call of Duty fans should be really excited as Infinity Ward revealed the first gameplay of Modern Warfare yesterday. Yesterday’s reveal introduced the players to Modern Warfare 2v2 mode.

Now we have our eyes set on August 1 for the full reveal of the Modern Warfare Multiplayer Universe. Call of Duty Modern Warfare release date is set for October 25 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
