Captain Price is Apparently Coming to Black Ops 4 Blackout

An Xbox User spotted something interesting in the Black Ops 4 store. And no, I’m not talking about an overpriced smiley face reticle. This time it’s something that people could like. By pre-ordering Modern Warfare, Captain Price can be added to Blackout as a playable character.

Blackout is the battle royale mode of Black Ops 4. The store briefly notified of prestige tokens and playable Captain Price in Black Ops 4 before it was removed. Here’s the screenshot:

Black Ops 4 has no campaign. Focusing all resources on the multiplayer and their battle royale mode. The game doesn’t feature character creation, but rather champion selection. Similar to games like Quake for example. These champions are mostly from the Black Ops games, like Frank Woods for example.

Captain Price is definitely a high profile addition. He’s been in our games for years, survived his entire trilogy and been a fan favorite. Above all that, he’s coming back in Modern Warfare 2019. That’s why it’s ample opportunity to use him for publicity. Hence, the Pre-order bonus is playing as Captain Price in Black Ops 4.

Pre-order bonuses are a pretty common practice in modern video gaming nowadays. Every game does it. The whole point is marketing to secure early sales for the game. That’s why the pre-order bonus is often some sort of gimmick.

In this case, it’s a crossover. The Modern Warfare and Black Ops games have been in IP rivals for a long time. While both do exist under the Call of Duty franchise, their fan bases are divided. The most memorable and noteworthy character in the franchise is easily Captain Price though.

The only point of contradiction is how rewarding the pre-order bonus is. Pre-ordering a game often rewards you within that very game itself. Such as Shao Khan in Mortal Kombat 11. Another reason to pre-order is a discounted price for example.

In this case, you aren’t getting anything in Modern Warfare 2019. Instead, you’ll be rewarded in another game, Black Ops 4. Most Call of Duty fans didn’t even buy Black Ops 4 due to the lack of classic features like campaign.

Then again, Activision hasn’t officially announced any details surrounding Modern Warfare pre-order bonuses yet. Maybe they have other rewards planned out? This was simply a detail in the Black Ops 4 store that a user found. Nothing official just yet.

Modern Warfare 2019 will release on October 25th later this year. It is being developed by Infinity Ward for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
