DOTA Underlords Alliances Guide – All Hero Alliances, Effects, Synergy Bonuses

The main focus of DOTA Underlords is to form a strong, synergetic team to win your battles. Since there are 23 different alliances, all of which have their unique perks, it is important to carefully pick each hero to make the best team possible in DOTA Underlords.

All heroes have at least two alliances. A bonus shall be granted for your minion if multiple matched alliance characters are combined.

DOTA Underlords Alliances

In order to find what alliance a hero is a part of, look at the colored icon which can be seen below them. It must be noted that there is a significant power difference between some alliances.

The more common, less powerful alliances will show up in the early rounds. In this guide, we will tell you about all the unique alliances, their heroes, and the special perks offered by them.

Assassin Heroes

  • Bloodseeker
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Morphling
  • Phantom Assassin
  • Queen of Pain
  • Sand King
  • Slark
  • Templar Assassin
  • Viper

Effects

  • (3x) A 10% chance is granted to the Assassins to critical hit for 300% damage.
  • (6x) A 20% chance is granted to the Assassins to critical hit for 400% damage.
  • (9x) A 30% chance is granted to the Assassins to critical hit for 500% damage.

In DOTA Underlords, critical hits always hit the target. What this means is that the Assassin alliance may be the only alliance which can easily handle Elusive enemies.

It is also one of the best alliances for dealing with the Ranged, Knight or Mage alliances since it also grants players the ability to leapfrog front-liners.

Blood-bound Heroes

  • Ogre Magi
  • Warlock

Effects
(2x) All other Blood-Bound units’ attack damage is boosted by 100% when a Blood-Bound unit dies in battle. This Alliance only has two heroes and one tier. It seems to be one of the weakest alliances in the game.

Brawny Heroes

  • Axe
  • Disruptor
  • Juggernaut

Effects

  • (2x) The maximum HP of all Brawny units is increased by 200.
  • (4x) The maximum HP of all Brawny units is increased by 500.

The biggest benefit of choosing this alliance is the very high health pool, making it great against mages. They are very solid in the early and mid-game. However, they do seem to have trouble keeping up when enemies with high damage start coming.

Deadeye Heroes

  • Gyrocopter
  • Sniper

Effects

  • (2x) The lowest-health enemy is focused on by the Deadeye units.

These snipers are very good for killing off low-health enemies. In very close rounds; having these can be a huge benefit. Having only two heroes, a whole team cannot be built out of these but they can be very useful if added to an already strong team.

Demon Heroes

  • Chaos Knight
  • Doom
  • Queen of Pain
  • Shadow Fiend
  • Terrorblade

Effects

  • (1x) Demon units’ pure damage is boosted by 50%. This is active when only one type of Demon unit is on the board.

The biggest downside of this alliance is that if you add another Demon to your board, the 50% damage buff is lost. Hence, it is hard to call it an actual alliance.

However, all the heroes in this alliance are very powerful and fit well with other alliances. Therefore, having one of these in a team is a very good idea.

Demon Hunter Heroes

  • Anti-Mage
  • Terrorblade

Effects

  • (1x) Your opponent’s Demon alliance bonus is negated.
  • (2x) Your opponent’s Demon alliance bonus is negated. Your own Demon units’ pure damage is boosted by 50%.

Demons and Demon Hunters provide a very solid synergy, but having both of them on-board does leave quite little room for other alliances.

Terrorblade and Anti-Mage from the Demon Hunter alliance are good heroes by themselves but when synergized with some Demon heroes, they can form a very strong team.

Dragon Heroes

  • Dragon Knight
  • Puck
  • Viper

Effects

  • (3x) Dragon units enter the battle with full Mana.

Dragon is one of the smaller alliances with only three heroes. Yet, all three heroes are individually strong.

A very useful strategy which could be used with this alliance is placing the Dragon Knight behind the front-liner Knights which will help in keeping this high damage unit in the fight for as long as possible.

Druid Heroes

  • Enchantress
  • Nature’s Prophet
  • Lone Druid
  • Treant Protector

Effects

  • (2x) The ally Druid with the lowest star is upgraded a level.
  • (4x) The 2 ally Druids with the lowest star are upgraded a level each.

This alliance could be relatively strong all the way to the endgame if you are able to upgrade your early game druids quickly.

However, it is not a good idea to build your whole team around this alliance as aside from Lone Druid and Treant Protector, the heroes are fairly weak individually.

Elusive Heroes

  • Anti-Mage
  • Nature’s Prophet
  • Luna
  • Phantom Assassin
  • Puck
  • Templar Assassin
  • Treant Protector
  • Wind Ranger Mirana

Effects

  • (3x) Elusive units’ evasion is boosted by 20%.
  • (6x) Elusive units’ evasion is boosted by 45%.
  • (9x) Elusive units’ evasion is boosted by 75%.

The Elusive Alliance is a great defensive alliance. A lot of the incoming melee damage can be evaded by the team-wide evasion buffs.

Another important perk of this alliance is that missed attacks from your enemies result in their mana not regenerating quickly. This results in their combos not being effective.

Most of the heroes in this alliance are also individually strong, making this one of the most powerful alliances in the game.

Heartless Heroes

  • Abaddon
  • Drow Ranger
  • Lich
  • Necrophos
  • Pudge

Effects

  • (2x) Enemies’ armor is decreased by 5.
  • (4x) Enemies’ armor is decreased by 10.
  • (6x) Enemies’ armor is decreased by 20.

This alliance grants a very simple buff. Yet, it does make the match much easier for your heroes. The heroes of this alliance are also pretty strong and work well with other alliances.

Human Heroes

  • Crystal Maiden
  • Dragon Knight
  • Keeper of the Light
  • Kunkka
  • Lina
  • Lycan
  • Omniknight
  • Bloodseeker

Effects

  • (2x) When attacking, Human units have a 20% chance to silence target for 4 seconds.
  • (4x) When attacking, Human units have a 44% chance to silence target for 4 seconds.
  • (6x) When attacking, Human units have a 66% chance to silence target for 4 seconds.

The Human Alliance also contains a bunch of heroes from the Knight, Mage and Warrior alliance. The effects of this alliance can serve a huge benefit later in the match by not allowing the enemy to cast their effects.

Hunter Heroes

  • Beastmaster
  • Drow Ranger
  • Medusa
  • Sniper
  • Tidehunter
  • Wind Ranger Mirana

Effects

  • (3x) 20% chance of quickly performing 2 attacks.
  • (6x) 35% chance of quickly performing 2 attacks.

If you pair the heroes from the Hunter alliance with some great defensive heroes to keep them alive, they can prove to be very powerful.

Therefore, a very strong synergy can be formed with the Scaled, Elusive and Heartless alliances. However, this alliance does fall short when facing the Assassin alliance as they can bypass the front-liners.

Inventor Heroes

  • Clockwerk
  • Gyrocopter
  • Techies
  • Timbersaw
  • Tinker

Effects
(2x) +15 HP regeneration is granted to the Inventors.
(4x) +40 HP regeneration is granted to the Inventors.

The Inventor alliance is incredibly powerful early on in the match. It is very easy to get upgraded heroes, as the heroes are very low-cost.

However, the Inventors do get weaker as the match progresses since the regeneration becomes inadequate to help with the enemies who deal very high damage.

Knight Heroes

  • Abaddon
  • Batrider
  • Chaos Knight
  • Dragon Knight
  • Luna
  • Omniknight

Effects

  • (2x) When at a distance of 1 cell from another Knight, Knight units take 25% decreased physical and magic damage.
  • (4x) When at a distance of 1 cell from another Knight, Knight units take 35% decreased physical and magic damage.
  • (6x) When at a distance of 1 cell from another Knight, Knight units take 50% decreased physical and magic damage.

This alliance works best when your units are kept close to each other in the entire match. Hence, they are, by default, unsafe from AoE damage and pure damage.

The damage of the heroes in this alliance is also very inadequate. Therefore, you will have to place some high damage units by them for support.

Mage Heroes

  • Crystal Maiden
  • Keeper of the Light
  • Lich
  • Lina
  • Ogre Magi
  • Puck
  • Razor

Effects

  • (3x) Your enemies’ Magic Resistance is reduced by 40%.
  • (6x) Your enemies’ Magic Resistance is reduced by 100%.

The bonus of the Mage alliance is not necessarily strong if you do not have some high damage spell-slingers from other alliances. It also becomes pretty much nullified when your enemies have immunity items.

Primordial Heroes

  • Enigma
  • Morphling
  • Razor
  • Tiny
  • Ace Warden

Effects

  • (2x) On being hit, Primordial units gain a 30% chance to disarm melee attackers for 4 seconds.
  • (4x) On being hit, ally units gain a 30% chance to disarm melee attackers for 4 seconds.

The Primordial alliance is another alliance which works best early on in the match. As the game progresses and more ranged enemies enter, the Primordial units become very ineffective.

Savage Heroes

  • Enchantress
  • Lone Druid
  • Lycan
  • Sand King
  • Tusk
  • Venomancer

Effects

  • (2x) Allies’ attack damage is boosted by 10%.
  • (4x) Allies’ attack damage is boosted by 25%.
  • (6x) Allies’ attack damage is boosted by 45%

The Savage alliance works very well with other defensive alliances. The damage boost the Savage alliance grants all the other allies makes it one of the most powerful alliances in the game.

Pair it up with a high-defense, low-damage alliance like Elusive or Knight and you have got yourself an extremely powerful team.

Scaled Heroes

  • Medusa
  • Slardar
  • Slark
  • Tidehunter

Effects

  • (2x) Magic Resistance of allies is boosted by 30%.
  • (4x) Magic Resistance of allies is boosted by 50%.

The Scaled alliance works best if your enemies are basing their team around mages. Only needing a 4-stack, the effects of the Scaled alliance are easily triggered, reaching all allies as soon as you have two Scaled heroes on your team.

The heroes of the Scaled alliance are not bad either, with Tidehunter being one of the best in the game.

Scrappy Heroes

  • Alchemist
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Clockwerk
  • Techies
  • Timbersaw
  • Tinker

Effects

  • (3x) +10 HP regeneration and +15 armor is given to a random ally.
  • (6x) +10 HP regeneration and +15 armor is given to allies.

The Scrappy alliance shares quite a few heroes with the Inventor alliance. The 6x effect, if unlocked, is incredibly beneficial in the early and late game. This alliance works best with high magic resistant units or lifesteal units.

Shaman Heroes

  • Disruptor
  • Shadow Shaman
  • Arc Warden

Effects

  • (3x) At the start of the round, a random enemy is turned into a frog for six seconds.

The Shaman alliance has only one tier and three heroes required to use it; its results are also random so they can fluctuate a lot. Because of this, the Shaman alliance is one of the weakest in the game.

Troll Heroes

  • Batrider
  • Shadow Shaman
  • Troll Warlord
  • Witchdoctor

Effects

  • (2x) Troll units’ attack speed is increased by 35.
  • (4x) Troll units’ attack speed is increased by 65 and other allies’ attack speed is increased by 30.

The Troll alliance might be the highest raw damage alliance in the game. If you unlock the 4x tier, your damage will be increased immensely.

Pairing the Troll alliance with a low-damage, high-defense alliance like Knight, or with a lifesteal alliance like Warlock will make your team extremely powerful.

Warlock Heroes

  • Alchemist
  • Enigma
  • Necrophos
  • Shadow Fiend
  • Venomancer
  • Witchdoctor
  • Warlock

Effects

  • (2x) Allies gain +15% lifesteal.
  • (4x) Allies gain +30% lifesteal.
  • (6x) Allies gain +50% lifesteal.

Lifesteal is one of the most useful effects in the game. It proves to very beneficial in the longer games as it keeps your units alive for longer.

Due to this, the Warlock alliance is one of the strongest defensive alliances in the game and works incredibly well with high-damage alliances like Assassin or Troll.

Warrior Heroes

  • Axe
  • Doom
  • Juggernaut
  • Kunkka
  • Lycan
  • Slardar
  • Tiny
  • Troll Warlord
  • Tusk
  • Pudge

Effects

  • (3x) Warriors’ armor is increased by 10.
  • (6x) Warriors’ armor Is increased by 15.
  • (9x) Warriors’ armor is increased by 25.

The Warrior alliance might be the best defensive alliance in the game due to its exceptionally high armor. You can unlock a very high armor buff with just a three stack of warriors.

If you want to base your team around defense, pairing Warriors with a lifesteal alliance like Warlock or with a high magic resistance alliance like Scaled will provide you with an impenetrable defense.

If you want a more balanced team, pairing Warriors with a high-damage alliance like Assassins and Troll will also work very well.
