Nintendo has apparently confirmed that Switch Mini or another new version of the console is in development. Rumors have been circulating on the internet for a long time that Nintendo is working on new Switch hardware, Switch Mini.
The information originated from Honson, a Chinese company that produces case and screen protectors. Honson has already started listing screen protectors and cases for Nintendo Switch Mini. But finally, Nintendo has officially addressed the rumors.
Was the Switch Mini just unofficially announced to me?
A gaming company in China just wrote to me letting me know they’re releasing accessories for the Nintendo Switch Mini.

During the 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Nintendo revealed that they are well aware of the rumors surrounding Nintendo Switch mini.
A representative from Nintendo said:
We acknowledge that there have been reports. Responding to rumours and speculations would end up stealing surprises from our customers and also be unprofitable to all of our shareholders, so we have no answer to that. As a general theory, we are always performing development of new hardware.
Of course, the statement above doesn’t confirm the existence of Switch mini but it does give a hint that Nintendo is working on new hardware. In short, those hoping to see a new version of Switch or Switch Mini are in luck. Then again, we will have to wait until Nintendo officially confirms anything.
There’s no release date known for the smaller version of Nintendo Switch yet. However, we can expect Switch Mini to be announced anytime this year.
Switch Mini is rumored to be a less powerful version of the current Switch console but more affordable. According to rumors, the smaller version of Switch will come with built-in and fixed controllers, meaning that there will be no Joy-Cons with it. Moreover, the mini version of Switch will not have dock support. No dock support means that it will not be able to connect to TV thus games will be only playable directly on the portable console.
Apart from Mini, there’s another version of Switch rumored to arrived called Switch Pro. The powerful version of Nintendo Switch Pro is rumored to come with upgrade hardware, storage, and display. If the reports are to be believed, we will hear an official regarding new Switch hardware soon.
It does make sense for Nintendo to release a new version of the console since Nintendo Switch has been selling like hotcakes since its launch. Nintendo also has a huge line-up of upcoming games which will take advantage of Switch Mini or Switch Pro. Upcoming Switch games include The Witcher 3 Complete Edition, Breath of the Wild 2 and more.
