According to WPP’s research arm Kantar BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands rankings, Xbox is the 87th most-valuable brand in the world leaving behind Sony and Nintendo.
The console war between Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox has been going on for decades now. In these past few years, the war shifted to next-gen consoles with Sony’s PlayStation 4 competing against Microsoft’s Xbox One. It is without a doubt that these past few years have been extremely well for Sony’s PlayStation 4 in terms of sales.
Whereas Nintendo’s portable gaming console, the Switch, became the fastest selling console worldwide in history.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 dominated Microsoft’s Xbox in terms of sheer units sold worldwide. But according to the BrandZ’s Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brand for 2019, the Xbox brand comes on top of other console brands such as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch in terms of value.
This Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands for 2019 list comes from WPP’s research arm Kantar. Kantar has been compiling this list ever since 2006. According to Financial Times, Kantar calculates “the value that brand contributes to businesses” by “combining financial and market data” with around 4 million consumer surveys of people living in 51 countries worldwide.
On this year’s Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands, Xbox comes at the 87th spot, having $16,690 Million USD in brand value for 2019. This is far above Sony, PlayStation, and Nintendo. The Xbox brand is, of course, owned by Microsoft, which is placed at the 4th spot with $309,000 Million USD in brand value for 2019.
The craziest part is that none of the Sony, PlayStation, Nintendo, or Switch brands have made it to the top 100 brands list. This means that these brands are far below in the list.
So the question is, where will Xbox go from here? There is, of course, the next-gen Xbox “Project Scarlett” which is in development with a 2020 release date. According to a recent prediction by industry analysts, Project Scarlett could sell for a price anywhere between $399 and $799. This could even boost the Xbox brand’s worth in the coming years. Let’s see what happens.
